Day 15

An easy day today.  Some of us were up at daybreak to take pictures  of the sunrise but it was rather disappointing.  There was too much cloud cover for good pictures.  As we were eating breakfast at 8:00am  the sun came out and it was a beautiful morning.  We had free time until lunch at noon and some people went for walks down to the train station while others walked the trail back onto the bluff overlooking the hotel to get some pictures  of the hotel in the sunlight.  Others sat on the balcony to bask in the sun.

Our Bus

After lunch we boarded a bus for a bus for a big excursion down the hill from the hotel then around the corner to the train station.  It probably took more time to load everyone onto the bus than what it would have taken to walk down the hill.

The train was to arrive at 1:10 but it was running on Mexican time today and didn't arrive until 1:55pm.
Waiting For The Train
We got off at Bahuichivo and boarded another bus to take us to Cerocahui.    We went over another narrow, bump and dust road for 16 km but we can handle anything now that we have traveled the road to Batopilas.

Our Train

At Cerocahui we went to the Tarahumara Indian girl's boarding school.  There were 89 girls in
The Girls Dorm
kindergarden to grade 6 staying at the school.  Their dorm was very neat and clean.  We watched a couple of the girls making
Making Tortllasi
tortillas for dinner and one girl started to cook them on the old wood cook stove.

The Church
A brief tour around the old mission church and more pictures.  We weren't able to go inside as there was a Mass in progress.  This church had a sign over the door which indicate the mission commenced in 1552 but other information indicated that it was built in 1680 and rebuilt in 1940.  In any event it was old.

We checked into the Mission Hotel which is owned by the same company as the Mirador.  I don't know how Adventure Caravans finds these places but this one is again a jewel.  Happy hour at six with more margaritas and another opportunity to share our experiences with others in the group while two local musicians entertained us until dinner at 7:00pm.  Not quite sure what happened at the dinner table behind us but there was a lot of talk about someone with hot lips.  We presume they were talking about the jalapeno peppers as they WERE HOT.  No, let me rephrase that...they were REALLY HOT!

When we returned to our rooms about 8:30pm we were surprised to see a fire in the wood burning air tight stove in our room.  The stove had a glass door and we could sit and watch the fire almost like being around a campfire.  We threw in couple of extra logs and hit the hay as tomorrow will be a very early start with breakfast at 7:00am and then we will be going to the Granddaddy of all canyons, the Urique Canyon.
