Loreto dates from 1697 when a mission was founded; a devastating hurricane in 1829 put Loreto into near oblivion until U.S. fishermen discovered that fishing was outstanding and turned the city into a tourist destination with an airport and several hotels and restaurants. The beaches are rocky and not suitable for walking or swimming, and the RV Park is crowed. The steak and shrimp dinner at Domingo’s was excellent and enjoyed by everyone.
